This was originally set for a match-up between Anderson Silva and Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champ Vitor Belfort. However, the current middleweight champ had an elbow surgery and has not fully recovered. Thiago Silva and Sugar Rashad Evans will now headline UFC 108 which will be aired live at 10AM on channel 34.
There were also talks that this could have been the much awaited comeback of the monstrosity that is Brock Lesnar to defend his heavyweight title but due to his continuing illness his fight against Shane Carwin will have to wait early next year.
Big stars who were supposed to fight for this event also pulled out citing injuries. One of them was Gabriel Gonzaga. He was scheduled to fight fellow Brazilian Junior dos Santos but due to his illness, he was immediately replaced by Dutch fighter Gilber Yvel.
Fighters who bailed out of this event were probably too lazy to go to training. We can’t blame them. It’s the holiday season for chrissake. Nobody wants to get kicked by their conditioning coach on the most wonderful time of the year. That is just not right.
Anyhoo, my money is on Thiago Silva for the main event. Rashad probably has not recovered from that knock out punch thrown to him by Lyoto Machida to snatch the Light Heavyweight Title from him.
Here is the Official Fight Card. I’m going be too drunk to watch the first few fights because there is a huge possibility that I may be ushering the New Year with a couple of booze. Hehe!
